Painting is a dance, a constant turning between eye and hand, light and land, paint and perception, spiraling down to a stillpoint where everything comes around right. With luck and persistence, a painter approaches that place, but never quite arrives. A painting, like a life, is always a work in progress. As long as a painting is in the studio, I never regard it as "finished." No condition is devoid of possibilities.
